Therapeutic Approaches

Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback, also called EEG Biofeedback is a state-of-the-art, non-invasive, drugless method that helps the brain develop or rebuild neural pathways that improve focus and concentration. Neurofeedback has been proven to create positive and long-lasting mental changes in both children and adults and improve their quality of life. It trains your brain to be calm, alert, and flexible and allows the brain to process information at a higher rate of coherence that will help patients cope with life struggles more effectively.

Neurofeedback therapy monitors brainwave activity critical in stimulating healthy brain performance. Using a computer technology clients receive instant brainwave feedback to through video images, sound, or both. The information that is fed back to you is EEG data of brainwaves that are collected through sensors placed on the head. The feedback tells you to produce more or less of certain types of necessary brainwaves, encouraging your brain to behave in a certain way

Applications of Neurofeedback include but are not limited to:

ADD/ADHD | Addictions | Anxiety/Depression | Insomnia/Stress

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) | Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

TBI/Head Injuries/Seizures/Stroke | Peak Performance/Meditation

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress resulting from disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy, people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound. If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes. The brain's information processing system naturally moves toward mental health. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes.

Womanist Approach

A womanist approach to mental health focuses on how women’s status in society directly affects their mental health. Women and girls are multidimensional creations that embody several roles, with each one becoming more dynamic and multifaceted as they age. As girls and women age, they go through numerous transitional periods marked by cultural and social impasses such as race, class, gender, educational status, abilities/disabilities, and sexual orientation that women and girls are often unprepared to handle. These transitional periods can be unpleasant and possibly awaken powerful thoughts, feelings, and body sensations that are uncomfortable and overwhelming.

Therapy for Women Beverly Hills utilizes a womanist approach to specifically identify possible cultural and social inequalities (poverty, violence, sexual victimization, acute and chronic stress) that may be influencing women and girl's mental health, specifically because researchers have linked these cultural and social disparities to an increase in mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance abuse and traumatic stress in women and girls.
